MarijuanopolisApplications & Use cases

Marijuanopolis will be a virtual-reality platform powered by the PUFFScoin blockchain, providing computer-based simulated environments populated by many users (“Citizens”) who can create a personal avatar and homespace, simultaneously and independently explore this virtual world, participating in its activities and communicating with others. Within the Marijuanopolis world, citizens will be able to create, experience, and monetize content and applications. Marijuanopolis is modeled as a definitely bounded, navigable virtual territory akin to a “flat earth”. This extent is designed as a non-fungible digital asset TERRA upheld by a smart contract and is divided into parcels identified by cartesian grid coordinates (x,y). Parcels are registered to citizens who purchase them using BUDS, Marijuanopolis’ internal chain-resident token.

Citizens have absolute control over their purchased environments and the applications they host within them. They may host forums, blogs, wikis, chatrooms, instant messaging, and video-conferences. They may provide digital art galleries or interactive gaming.

Certain Parcels are further organized into thematic neighborhoods called Districts where shared spaces may be created recognizing collective interests and passions. The content that makes up Marijuanopolis is stored and distributed through IPFS (InterPlanetary File Storage), although migration to a full Swarm host will be looked upon to maintain full decentralization. Land ownership and in-world transactions are validated across the PUFFScoin blockchain.

The ultimate goal is to build Marijuanopolis to support citizen access through mobile devices, desktop web browsers or to fully immerse themselves using VR headsets.

Unlike other virtual worlds and social networks, Marijuanopolis is not controlled by a centralized organization. There is no single agent with the power to modify the rules of the software, contents of land, the economics of the currency, or prevent others from accessing the world.

BUYING AND SELLING PROPERTY IN MARIJUANOPOLIS

Property in Marijuanopolis is allocated in 10m x 10m square Parcels. One Land is one Parcel. Land is tokenized, employing an ERC721 non-fungible token smart contract deployed to the PUFFScoin blockchain called TERRA. Each token is unique, referring to a specific parcel of land in Marijuanopolis with specific (x,y) coordinates in the world.

Land can be managed (ie: content uploaded to it) one or more parcels at a time, called “plots”.

The Land Manager

The Land Manager application will allow citizens to buy and sell privately owned Land thru peer-to-peer transactions. Citizens can view a two-dimensional grid map of every TERRA parcel in Marijuanopolis, helping to visualize overall property holdings in relation to the rest of Marijuanopolis’ geography. Specifically, the LAND Manager provides an overview of each parcel, including:

The public address of a parcel’s owner.
Whether or not a parcel has been contributed to a district.
Which parcels are dedicated to Marijuanopolis’ road system.
Which parcels make up the public Ganja Plaza.
Which parcels are unclaimed.

The Land Manager application is browser-based and will require citizens to unlock their MetaMask or Haze wallets to communicate across the PUFFScoin blockchain.Citizens can zoom in and out, clicking on any color-coded parcel of land, to see its status, its coordinates and its owner’s public address (if it has been sold). Citizens can also use this application to transfer ownership of their parcels of land to another citizen, directly across the PUFFScoin network. The ability to lease or rent parcels of land is not available yet, but the project scope will scale to allow the mechanisms of enforcing forms of land lease or rental agreements via smart contracts.

Total land area in Marijuanopolis

The total BUDS supply following the token sale will be 3,000,000,000 BUDS. The smart contract governing the BUDS token specifies a token supply inflation rate of up to 8% per year. As Ganja City parcels will be initially auctioned for 1,000 BUDS per parcel, 3 billion BUDS translates into less than 3 million land parcels. Alongside further use cases for BUDS, which will be employed as an in-world economy, will diminish the available token supply that can be devoted to obtaining land.

Each parcel of land is 10m x 10m or 100 square meters. Thus, the initial potential size of Marijuanopolis will be under 300 million square meters.
If the entire supply of BUDS were to be converted at 1,000 BUDS/parcel, the size of Marijuanopolis would be of about 16 km or 10 mi on a side. (To compare this to real-world analogs, the total potential virtual land area in Marijuanopolis would be approximately the same size as the original square of land allocated for Washington DC.)

The initial area of land opened to the citizenry in May 2018 will be called Ganja City, and will be represented as a square of 300 x 300 parcels (or 90,000 parcels). Many of these will be set towards thematic Districts, as the pioneering citizenry might have ideas toward communally creating and encoding in the blockchain.

Private Land
Land outside of districts in Ganja City is privately owned. Immigrating citizens would buy it from its current owner, using the Land Manager. It is expected that mirroring real-world scenarios, that land near plazas, districts and roads will have higher traffic and generally cost more. Land removed from proximity to these amenities will likely be more affordable, as the in-game economy arranges itself through citizen interaction.

District Land or Membership
A few districts are actually private lands purchased by a group of people together, to promote a common theme or interest. If citizens wish to purchase land in such a district, it would be a private purchase from the owner(s) of a particular parcel(s).

Most districts are entirely or mostly pooled land. In general, pooled district land will not be available for private purchase. These districts may have a mechanism to buy a membership in the district. Districts will have private chat available through our Marijuanopolis community, where membership in districts can be negotiated or purchased through the mechanisms that each district puts into place.

GANJA CITY and DISTRICTS

Districts are themed communities with a common area of ownership within Marijuanopolis. With the launch of Ganja City, we will be permitting ten districts to be constructed within the 300 square parcel area. Future Districts will be associated outside of the borders of Ganja City, at negotiable rates per parcel.

Ganja City’s layout will be set as concentric rings, with a shared center. The inner ring will feature the Founders Plaza which may host rotating exhibitions and other curated content. Plaza’s will be controlled by the Marijuanopolis Council, governed by DAO smart contract suites.

The second ring will feature land parcels available during the TERRAforming event to launch Marijuanopolis. Potential citizens will be able to bid as much as they wish on each parcel using a Ganja City LandSale dApp.

Groups who wish for larger land allocation may submit District Proposals, which will be assigned to groups as fairly as possible during the TERRAforming event. Groups seeking land formed as Districts will be asked to submit District Planning Proposals to the Marijuanopolis Council.

Districts may enact their own governance and will be set as either Private or Pooled land ownership models. Private ownership within Districts is the simplest to set up, requiring an agreement among individuals of the collective regarding land ownership within the district. Districts may create Charters and zoning rules to control visual or content development. These rules may eventually become enforceable in the blockchain.

Pooled ownership will allow for a more group controlled theming and land development, allowing for contract-held governance which is securities-compliant, or may allow for decentralized corporate jurisdiction, allowing for the evolution of emerging legal and tax structures within and between Districts.

THE GANJA CITY TERRAforming EVENT

Parcels within Ganja City, the nascent land offering in Marijuanopolis will begin May 20, 2018, and will last for 7 days. To participate in the Auction, prospective citizens must stake their BUDS to the Ganja City Auction, contributing to either private land auctions or to community district auctions.

All BUDS that are burned to buy land (in districts, or won in auction bids) are converted to Land and the BUDS are “burnt”. These BUDS will be sent to the PUFFScoin Veterans Cannabis Endowment, for that organization’s use within Marijuanopolis or sold back into the BUDS circulating pool.

The initial 90,000 parcels representing Ganja CIty form a square 300 Parcels on each side. Each parcel has an X,Y coordinate in the map, with the central Founders Plaza centered at coordinates X,Y = 0,0.The most distant parcels in Ganja City being at X,Y = +/- 150,150. (East is positive X, West is negative X, North is positive Y, South is negative Y.)

Not all 90,000 parcels will be available for auction, as roads for traversability through Marijuanopolis will take up space, as will various Community Plazas. Overall, it is within the scope of city-planning that at least 60,000 parcels be available for private or district auction in Ganja City. A map of Marijuanopolis will be produced for prospective citizens to choose neighborhoods they might prefer.

OTHER THINGS

Digital Art

There is a growing community of provably unique digital art creators and collectors, where art and ownership are represented on the blockchain using smart contracts and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), typically following the ERC-721 standard.

A single smart contract following the ERC-721 standard may be deployed to the PUFFScoin blockchain, with a unique address, representing a ‘collection’ of digital art. This contract can then be probed with the unique ID of a piece of digital art, e.g 1, 124 or a PUFFScoin address, in order to retrieve metadata about the art, e.g. owner or an IPFS address of the hosted art.

As crossovers between people that own Marijuanopolis Land parcels and people that own digital art begin to strengthen, citizens may wish to show off pieces of unique digital art in their homespaces. A simple analogy would be hanging a one-of-a-kind painting on one’s living room wall.

Likewise, digital artists may wish to make their own works, recorded as NFTs, available for purchase within Marijuanopolis for display within the virtual world.

Keys

Some citizens may want to implement a tower idea where-in members get their own room or virtual office space in a tower. This brings up the idea of private space within the virtual world, where other citizens are not able to enter your home or office without your permission. Keys may also work for districts of landowners who wish to offer paid events, e.g. club nights, private parties and others as invite-only or membership situations.

USE CASES

Some ideas for experiences you can create on your land include:

Malls, stores, and product showrooms
Schools, universities, classrooms, or other learning resources
Games, labyrinths, quests, puzzles, mysteries
Genre-themed areas (cyberpunk, steampunk, fae, etc.)
Art galleries and museums
Conference facilities
Virtual meeting places for work teams
Talks and lectures
Concerts, music and dance venues
Natural environments, such as forests, gardens, and beaches
Events, interactive art installations, and interactive literature
Temples, churches, meditation centers
Medical facilities e.g. for telemedicine

A standard of conduct will be expected, and while enforcement and blacklisting can be achieved by citizens enacting their right to choose who they interact with, behavioral standards must be observed.

MARIJUANOPOLIS FAQ

What are BUDS?
BUDS are Marijuanopolis’ native transferrable ERC20 cryptocurrency tokens, represented as a smart contract on the PUFFScoin blockchain. BUDS are “burned” in exchange for TERRA parcels. A Token Information dashboard will be available for the BUDS asset transparency, showing total supply, circulating supply, burned token balance, and rich list along with a BUDS block explorer.
Citizens will also be able to spend BUDS in exchange for goods and services hosted within Marijuanopolis, allowing users to build private economies within the worldscape itself.

What is TERRA?
TERRA  is the non-fungible digital asset representing the whole virtual landscape of Marijuanopolis and is preserved as a PUFFSnet resident smart contract. This is divided into parcels, referenced using unique (x,y) cartesian grid coordinates. Each token of TERRA carries a record of its coordinates, its owner, and a reference to a content description file or parcel manifest on IPFS which encodes the content the owner wishes to provide on the virtual space it occupies.

Parcels of land are considered proportionate to 10m squared (33ft square). “Constructed” height is only restricted by technical and performance limits.

How can I buy TERRA in Marijuanopolis?
On May 20, 2018, we will launch our initial TERRA auction, distributing parcels of land to the citizenry of Marijuanopolis. Upon the launch of Marijuanopolis, citizens will have access to a marketplace where they may buy or sell digital land holdings as well as Land Management applications to enable citizens to visualize and interact with their properties.

What does “owning” virtual land mean, and how does it work?
Land within Marijuanopolis is represented by non-fungible TERRA tokens, each of which is unique and cannot be replicated. TERRA tokens track land ownership within Marijuanopolis on the PUFFScoin blockchain. Owning TERRA within Marijuanopolis is comparable to owning any other unique, crypto-collectible asset (like CryptoKitties), however, you will be able to use TERRA within Marijuanopolis to build content from static text, 3D VR-accessible spaces, and applications. TERRA is a digital asset that can be traded with other users, built on the ERC821 standard.

Why is land scarce?
TERRA is a non-fungible digital asset. To ensure that the value of land parcels remains stable, the amount of land in Marijuanopolis corresponds to the fixed, total amount of BUDS. There are borders at the edge of Marijuanopolis. In the future, it may be available for virtual communities such as Marijuanopolis to communicate with other virtual worlds, either on the PUFFScoin blockchain. other blockchains or provided by third-party off-chain providers.

How are Marijuanopolis transactions validated?
The PUFFSnet resident TERRA smart contract registers any changes to the state of a property, such as a change in the contents of the represented digital space or a transfer of ownership. These changes are registered and verified by the PUFFScoin blockchain.

How is content distributed?
The visual, audio, and 3D content of Marijuanopolis will be stored in IPFS. When citizens visit Marijuanopolis, the content needed to render their location will be pulled from IPFS. Each TERRA token, registered on the PUFFScoin blockchain, is associated with an (x,y) grid-location within the worldspace and links to the IPFS content for that location.

Will I be able to control who can see content on my parcels?
You will be able to control how certain content on your parcel is served to other users within the Marijuanopolis platform. 3D models, images, video, or sound content may be set to be visible only to users who have submitted a payment or fulfilled some other requirement (registration or subscription). Content, stored on IPFS is essentially publicly available as IPFS is a distributed file system. While limitations are possible to control how that content is served to users through a Marijuanopolis client, the content itself will always remain discoverable on IPFS.
Citizens WILL be able to control who can see and interact with them in Marijuanopolis. As an example, if a citizen has constructed a house on their parcel, wanting to only invite certain friends over, they can specify which users they can see and which users can see them within the house. However, citizens won’t necessarily be able to prevent anyone from seeing the house itself, or its digital contents, as the assets required to render the location resides on IPFS.
